Guns sent to cartels by Feds are themselves the 'smoking gun'

In a curious twist to the Gunwalker scandal, or 'Operation Fast and Furious,' sources who have contact with Mexican drug cartels say that the types of guns sent to the cartels by the Feds in the ATF are themselves the 'smoking gun' which indicate malevolent intent on the part of the U.S. Government..
This raises a central question that goes to the very heart of Gunwalker--why would the federal government supply over 2000 guns to the cartels when those guns either were not even wanted or could be purchased on the black market for far less money than what was spent buying them in U.S. gun stores?
In answer to that question it is vital to understand the mindset of Barack Obama going as far back as his time spent in the Illinois legislature.
Obama has always been fundamentally opposed to the right of the citizens to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. In 1996 he filled out a candidate questionnaire while running for the Illinois Senate stating that he supported laws that ban the manufacture, sale, and possession of handguns--the weapon of choice for most Americans when it comes to self-defense.
While serving as an Illinois State Senator, Obama also opposed a bill that would allow citizens to protect themselves with handguns against home invasions. The bill was approved, but Obama voted no to the right of citizens to protect themselves in their own homes.

Reminiscing

The ole Welshman takes a trip down memory lane today as I discuss some early influences on my life.

This is somewhat of a 'spiritual memoir,' albeit a brief one. Read it HERE.  Hope you will find something in that story that will be of benefit to you!

GOP Insiders: GOP Leadership too Spineless to Go After Obama

Over the last two days several GOP insiders who are decidedly conservative and who are distressed over the direction the leadership is taking the Party have stated that the Republican establishment is "too spineless" to go after Obama on the Fast and Furious scandal.
"Boehner doesn't have the guts to go after him," stated one insider.
The statement was made in answer to a question as to why the Republican leadership in the House seems reticent about pursuing broad-based investigations into Project Gunwalker (Operation Fast and Furious), in spite of the fact that Darrell Issa's committee has uncovered enough information on Obama and the entire top tier of the Administration to merit those investigations.

Hillary Questioned About Gunwalker Scandal

For the first time since she was implicated in the Operation Fast and Furious (or Project Gunwalker) scandal, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton faced questions concerning the issue during a House committee hearing today.
According to an article published in The Hill, the Secretary of State was asked about the scandal during a meeting of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Congressman Connie Mack, R-Florida, asked Clinton about her knowledge of Gunwalker:
Appearing before the House Foreign Affairs committee, Clinton was questioned by Rep. Connie Mack (R-Fla.) about the State Department’s involvement in the controversial Fast and Furious operation that has triggered hearings on Capitol Hill.
Mack asked Clinton if State had issued “the Justice Department a license or a written waiver in order to allow for the transfer of thousands of weapons across the U.S.-Mexico border?”
The secretary testified that State had “no record of any request for coordination. We have no record of any kind of notice or heads up.”
“My recollection is that I heard about it from the press,” Clinton added.
The answer is reminiscent of what Attorney-General Eric Holder told a Congressional committee in June in answer to a question as to when he knew of the Fast and Furious scandal. Holder stated that he had only been informed about it a couple of weeks prior to the meeting.

All guns and politics from the best gun rights and liberty bloggers on the Internet.

Mike Vanderboegh reports breaking news that Pajamas Media has found Kevin O'Reilly--the State Department and National Security Council guy who knew all about Gunwalker but was transferred to Iraq.

David Codrea notes that the mayor of Atlanta ended the 'Occupy Atlanta' protest when the Second Amendment was exercised with the First.

Kurt Hofmann declares that St. Louis is dangerous for the unarmed and unprepared.

WRSA warns that it is a big mistake to count out Obama until March of 2013...yes, you read that right.

Way Up North is thinking about turning the lights out on his blog, for good. I hope not. But words of encouragement have at least got him to thinking it over before disappearing. Go over there and tell him how much you appreciate his contribution. I know I do.

GunRights4US tells it like it is on the Occupy Wall Street crowd. As I warned way back in August, this is a Marxist-inspired movement and will quickly disintegrate into violence and chaos, as it did when Bill Ayers first implemented this thing in Chicago in 1969.

John Jacob H has the must-read of the week. Now, you may not think so when you first glance at the subject matter. But read it all. You will see it holds broad ramifications for the current state of affairs in America.

D.C. Whispers--Major Gunwalker Figure Hands over Documents

Today the whispers floating around Washington, D.C. among the 'inside-the-beltway' pundits concerning the Project Gunwalker case focus on former Deputy Attorney-General David Ogden, a key figure in the scandal. The rumor is that Ogden has handed over to Darrell Issa's House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform a stack of documents that not only vindicate ATF whistleblowers but confirm the guilt of the perpetrators of the scheme within the DOJ and the ATF.
One of the original Gunwalker reporters who first broke the story warns that such behind-the-scenes whispers may be a'disinformation campaign' aimed at discrediting the allegations by raising false hopes only to see such hopes dashed later on.
Such disinformation is a common practice among government elites. The Clinton Administration, for example, was quite adept at propaganda campaigns aimed at hiding truth by diverting attention to other issues.
However, Issa's committee, when asked about the veracity of the rumors, would neither confirm nor deny that they possess such documents.
If it is true that Ogden has turned over the goods, then this would represent a major turning-point in the ongoing investigation into what has become the single biggest political scandal and cover-up in U.S. history.

Convenient Timing? NYT on 'Success' of Gov. Snitch Operations in Mexico

The New York Times has made barely a ripple with its scant coverage of the Fast and Furious scandal engulfing the entire Obama Administration. But it was quick today to laud the 'success' of the federal government's snitch operations in Mexico. Could this be a case of convenient timing, given that the Administration is increasingly under the gun as a result of the Fast and Furious scandal and its cover-up?
In a news story, not an op-ed, today entitled, "U.S. Agencies Infiltrating Drug Cartels Across Mexico," reporter Ginger Thompson stated that U.S. law enforcement agencies have been able to build up a team of insider informants who have infiltrated the drug cartels, which has led to significant arrests and/or killings of high level or mid-level drug traffickers:
As the United States has opened new law enforcement and intelligence outposts across Mexico in recent years, Washington’s networks of informants have grown there as well, current and former officials said. They have helped Mexican authorities capture or kill about two dozen high-ranking and midlevel drug traffickers, and sometimes have given American counternarcotics agents access to the top leaders of the cartels they are trying to dismantle.
Typically, the officials said, Mexico is kept in the dark about the United States’ contacts with its most secret informants — including Mexican law enforcement officers, elected officials and cartel operatives — partly because of concerns about corruption among the Mexican police, and partly because of laws prohibiting American security forces from operating on Mexican soil.
Note two key aspects contained in the quote....

Dangerous and Deadly--ATF Retaliates

In response to whistleblowers and reporters who have revealed significant corruption within the agency, the ATF has apparently undertaken a systematic effort to retaliate against anyone who has shone the light on the agency's illegal activity, particularly with regard to Operation Fast and Furious, also known as Project Gunwalker. Within the last 24 hours information has come to light indicating a dangerous and deadly pattern on the part of ATF supervisors to punish agents who talk and to intimidate reporters who put the pressure on Congress to reign in an agency that is obviously out of control.
According to veteran ATF agents who post at the site CleanUpATF.org, agency supervisors have retaliated against whistleblower agents in a variety of ways. First, supervisors have made it clear that their goal is to fire such agents. Working under such a threat is in itself a heavy load to bear. Second, supervisors have attempted to frame whistleblower agents for crimes they did not commit. And third, supervisors have refused to grant added protection to whistleblowers whose cover was blown once they went public, leaving them vulnerable to death threats and actions aimed at killing them and their families.
One whistleblower, Peter Forcelli, had to be reassigned to protect him from retaliation by the Phoenix field office once he testified before Congress. John Dodson, the agent who became the face of the whistleblowers due to his now-infamous interviews on CBS and Fox News, has suffered having his name dragged through the mud, along with various and sundry other actions to make him pay for his 'crime' of going public.
And then, there is the case of agent Jay Dobyns, a decorated 25-year veteran of the ATF who was singularly responsible for infiltrating and exposing criminal activity associated with the gang 'Hell's Angels.' Dobyns was one of the agents who spoke out about the corruption within the ATF.

The 2A News Roundup--Top Ten for Monday, October 24, 2011

All guns and politics, from the best gun rights and liberty bloggers on the Internet.

David Codrea doubts that the California Senate Committee will even mention Gunwalker in the little stunt they are pulling tomorrow to 'call attention to the gun smuggling pipeline going from California to the Mexican drug cartels.'

Mike Vanderboegh has VITAL reading today on something the Leviathans, the jackbooted thugs of the Federal Government, have pulled to send a message, or something more ominous. Keep Mike AND the ATF whistleblowers in your prayers.

WRSA issues a dire warning of a 'coming greater crash' that should send prudent citizens on a mission to take extreme evasive action to protect their assets, interests, and loved ones. This is important!

Market Guru Karl Denninger, to further scare the pants right off your butt, has this little item about your pensions!

Our friend Pamela Geller posted the video of her appearance on Fox News to discuss the Libyan situation. This is one lady that truly gets it.

Alphecca reports some good news, that Wisconsin will now recognize concealed carry permits from 25 states. This is a growing trend, I am glad to say, except for those states held in the grip of Marxists like Kalifonia, New York, and Illinois.

Line in the Desert is providing some on-the-scene coverage of the Occupy Phoenix hippy-fest, which his part of the Occupy Wall Street thing, originally named 'U.S. Days of Rage' ala domestic terrorist Bill Ayers in Chicago in 1969.

Way Up North issues his firing range report from the weekend.

Standing By has an enraging story highlighting the criminal activity of the ATF and the media blindness to the matter.

Tam opines on the relative uselessness of a Derringer when it comes to self-defense. Agreed. I don't want one. I won't carry anything less than a .38 Military and Police Special. Yes, I am partial to wheel guns.

Obama's foreign policy: 'success' or spread of tyranny?

With the so-called 'liberation' of Libya last week following the capture and execution of dictator Muammar Gaddafi, mainstream media pundits, reporters, and evening news anchors in one accord proclaimed a string of foreign policy 'successes' under the leadership of Barack Obama. Gaddafi's killing along with that of Osama bin Laden and several other most-wanted terrorists, it was claimed, underscore Obama's resounding victories in the war on terror and the deposing of 'dangerous dictators.'
But are these foreign policy initiatives successes or have they only enabled the spread of tyranny throughout the Middle East, North Africa, and other hot beds of extremism in the region?
In Libya the vacuum created by the killing of Muammar Gaddafi has not resulted in a push toward democracy, as claimed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton or other pundits in the media. 'Democracy' as it has been defined by the American experience, presupposes freedom. But this is not the case in Libya nor in the other countries where dictators recently have been ousted.
Instead, radical extremists with Islam are poised to score a coup all across the entire region, from Libya to Egypt to Tunisia.

Breaking--Gunwalker firearms prompts Senate forum

Breaking news from California indicates that the Gunwalker scheme--'Operation Fast and Furious'--by which the federal government placed thousands of firearms into the hands of Mexican drug cartels has prompted a Senate forum to "examine California's role as a pipeline for guns and ammunition to the Mexican drug cartels and how to improve efforts to stem such gun and ammunition trafficking."  The forum will be held Tuesday, October 25, from 10 AM until 12 Noon in the Ronald Reagan State Building in Los Angeles, and will be conducted by State Senator Kevin de.Leon, who represents the 22nd Senate district for the California State Assembly.
